Tracks is an ongoing project of Mrs. Henry's Sixth-Grade class
Forest Park Elementary School - Crystal Falls, MI 49920

In "Tracks at Your Doorstep" students are introduced to principles of landscape ecology and field biology through practical, hands-on scientific studies literally at the students' doorstep. In this land of six months of winter, our Upper Michigan sixth graders on snowshoes learn to read and cast mammal tracks and develop skills with map and compass. With the help of high school biology and English classes, they develop and maintain an animal habitat data base and report their findings. The project employs an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines practical skill in field biology, orienteering, mapping, geography, social studies, writing, and public presentations.
